Chevrolet Engine Not Working

Why Is My Car Not Starting?

Car owners dread the day they go to start the car, only to discover that nothing happens. If you're in a situation where your vehicle won't start, you may be able to figure out the problem before you call for help or schedule service for repairs. You may be able to fix some issues yourself, or you may discover that you have a more significant problem with the engine or mechanical system that needs a mechanic's attention to repair.

Faulty Ignition

The ignition switch is a small part of your car, but it can explain the fact that your vehicle won't start. The ignition sends a signal to the engine to start running when you start the car. The ignition can wear out or become damaged with moisture exposure, which prevents the vehicle from turning on. The ignition will need to be changed by a mechanic if it breaks.

Dead Battery

Your car's battery is designed to last roughly 3-5 years. Alternatively, that equates to about 60,000 miles. If the battery on the car fails, you might notice that the headlights appear dim when you start the car. The engine may also be slow to turn over. If you have a battery tester at home, you can check the battery's power level to see how much strength it has left. If there is no power left in the battery, a mechanic will need to install a new one.

Clogged Fuel Filter

Every car's engine is equipped with fuel filters to ensure optimal performance. The fuel filter allows fresh air to reach the engine and enter the fuel lines. If the fuel filter gets too dirty, it won't allow enough air to pass through. The engine's performance will suffer as a result, and you may also discover that the car's fuel economy drops below its normal level.

Bad Starter

The starter is a small electric motor connected to the engine. The motor starter is another part of the car that can break over time. If the starter breaks, you may notice that the engine does not crank as usual when you use the key to start the ignition. Clicking sounds also indicate a starter issue.

No Gas

If the car runs out of gas, you won't be able to get out the driveway without a fuel refill. If the tank is empty, you will need to get an emergency supply of gasoline or get a tow truck to reach the closest gas station.
