Federal EV Tax Credit

What Should Chevrolet Buyers in Evansville Know About Federal EV Incentives?

Federal tax incentives for electric vehicles are phasing out. The Clean Vehicle Credit, worth up to $7,500, is set to expire on September 30, 2025, unless extended by new legislation. A separate credit for installing a home EV charger ends on June 30, 2026. If you're shopping for a Chevrolet EV or planning to install a home charger, now is the time to act.

How Much Can You Get with the Clean Vehicle Credit?

The full credit offers up to $7,500, split between two criteria:

  • $3,750 if the vehicle meets battery component sourcing requirements
  • $3,750 if it meets critical mineral sourcing rules

Eligibility depends on how the vehicle is built and where components are sourced. Some models may qualify for only part of the credit—or none at all.

What Are the Requirements for Chevrolet EVs to Qualify?

To be eligible for the Clean Vehicle Credit, your Chevrolet EV must:

  • Be brand new at the time of sale
  • Include a battery capacity of 7 kWh or more
  • Undergo final assembly in North America
  • Be produced by a qualified manufacturer
  • Stay under the $80,000 MSRP cap for trucks, vans, and SUVs, or $55,000 for other vehicles
  • Be sold by a dealer who reports the sale to the IRS
  • Be purchased by a buyer who meets income limitations

When Will These EV Tax Credits End?

The Clean Vehicle Credit is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2025, and the home charger credit will be gone after June 30, 2026. There’s no guarantee either will be renewed, so waiting could cost you.
